Disable Touchpad
- With today's technology and affordability more and more consumers are
using notebook computers as opposed to desktop pcs. Many people however
do not like the touchpad mouse which is what is installed on a
notebook. There is a rather simple way for the consumer to disable
laptop touchpad and add an external mouse, which is what we will discuss
in this article.
The main reasons for people to want to disable laptop touchpad are they
are gamers and need to use an external mouse, or need to use a mouse for
a lot of moving and clicking (such as data entry), or perhaps they just
dislike it. Dependent upon the model you are using and which version of
Windows you are using there will be varying instructions on how perform
this function.
The easiest and most common way to disable the touchpad is to follow below:
1. Go to 'Start' then 'Control Panel'.
2. Navigate to 'Printers and Other Hardware', then click on 'mouse
settings', or in newer versions of Windows (such as Windows 7), these
will be found under 'Hardware and Sound'.
3. You will see a tab that says 'Devices', click on this tab and navigate to 'Mouse'.
4. This next step will be dependent upon your laptop setup. If you see a
selection called 'Synaptic' then all you need to do is disable by
selecting it.
5. You would then click 'Apply', and 'Ok' to save settings and exit out of the control panel.
6. It is always wise to restart your computer after changes such as this.
In the instances where you do not have 'Synaptic' option as stated above follow these steps:
1. Go to 'Start' then 'Control Panel'.
2. Navigate to 'Printers And Other Hardware', then click on 'mouse
settings', or in newer versions of Windows (such as Windows 7), these
will be found under 'Hardware and Sound'.
3. You will see a tab that says 'Devices' tab.
4. Next select the PS/2 Mouse and go to properties.
5. You should now have a 'change properties' setting, select.
6. You should then disable the mouse driver by clicking on the correct tab or option.
7. Click Apply then OK.
8. Now restart your system, but first be sure to install you USB mouse.
Should neither of these two solutions work for you, you may need to
enter your bios at the startup and see if you can disable notebook
touchpad within that. If not, you should contact a service technician.
